What Every College Student Needs To Know®
About Conflict Management
You know what’s awesome? If you thought we were going to say “conflict management” as a clever way to connect to the subject of this seminar, you’d be wrong. Jetpacks? Sure, those actually are pretty awesome. Glow-in-the-dark tigers? Absolutely awesome. Conflict? Nope. Not a chance.
Small differences at club meetings can easily erupt into fights. Club meetings, events, and entire organizations can get wrecked because most of us don’t understand conflict, and more so, we just hate dealing with it. If you want to change the way your organization deals with conflict, it starts with learning about why conflict happens, discovering your own conflict management style, and understanding how to deal with conflict in an educational experience that’s relevant, fun, and low on the cheesy-scale.
It all starts with understanding. During this experience, we will discuss the myths, stereotypes, and fears about conflict. Students will then gain relevant and ready-to-use tools in this crash course in conflict management to put these tools into practice through activity, role play, and discussion.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Participants will…
Understand the deeper causes of conflict in your organization: is it the same thing over and over again, is it a debate on what program to put on campus, or is it a clash of personality?
Engage in activities to understand what conflict management style they use most, why and when each style is important, and how to interact with each style for productive conflict resolution.
Know how to become a strategic listener by seeking first to understand before trying to be understood.
