Summit 2015

Well hello there! Welcome to the Collegiate Empowerment Summit! I know that makes you feel tons of special that you have this opportunity to play our game, but really, it's an honor for us as well. We hand-select the people that we want to be a part of our team, and we couldn't be more excited that you'll be joining us for this fantastic tribal experience to see if you've got what it takes. You're going to love it! Below you'll find all the need-to-know info as you prepare for this wild ride.

WHY THE SUMMIT?

  • Connect with your tribe and develop a deeper and more meaningful relationship with CE.
  • Get re-energized to make the most of your entrepreneurial experience with CE.
  • Master your craft of how you consult and perform, on and off stage.
  • Boost your certification status as a Collegiate Empowerment Facilitator and/or Consultant.
  • Explore your deeper purpose in how you live and work.

Each summit serves its own purpose. Generally, the Fall Summit in December is focused on New Member Orientation, setting the vision for the upcoming year, fun and relevant pre-training assignments, new train-the-trainer sessions, and Master Facilitator performances of new seminars that facilitators will prepare to perform in the spring.

The Spring Summit in May is usually focused on clarifying the bigger CE vision and outlining how that vision synergizes with your personal goals, team genius sharing where anyone has the chance to be the hero or expert, and apprentice facilitator performances of the seminars learned at the fall summit all while being heckled by your favorite audience: us!

TESTIMONY

AF: Having the safe space to have all the feels and still be supported and cared for while with people who are working on mastering the same thing I am!

DB: It’s awesome to see another new person come on board and to see how quickly we come to her support. The summit is a safe place to ask for help. And of course, the personal connection.

CL: Seeing everyone, meeting Heather, but my favorite is seeing how everyone’s “One Other Thing” is being integrated into CE.

JL: It’s a good place to maintain a singular focus on CE and nothing else. It’s powerful to hone in on the one thing that’s most important. It’s great to see the growth of the organization. The summits and training build confidence.

HP: Meeting everyone, learning the process, being a part of something bigger.

JU: There is no replacement for live training and team bonding. That’s why I went to National Speakers Association years ago; that’s why I was a part of Toastmasters; that’s why I have had several mentors; and that’s why I do this. Plus, this gives me a good view of the facilitator team I will be selling to my clients!

TD: The key to success in life is: SHOWING UP. Thanks to everyone who showed up.

WHAT'S NEW?

Holy moly. How do we even begin by answering this question?! New team members. New roles. Backstage briefings. New book study. A fresh train-the-trainer session. More seminars. And one special, secret surprise that I’m doing my best not to tell anyone before December 7th.

Here's the new seminars for Certified Facilitators:

Here's the new seminars for Rookie and Licensed Facilitators:

Here's what's happening for new Consultants:

  • Building a relationship via consulting, not selling.
  • Lead generation > lead conversion > client fulfillment.
  • From sales to influence to results.
  • How to influence like a rock star.

EXPECTATIONS

  • The CE Summit is ongoing tryouts & training. If you are not ready to facilitate in front of an audience or consult for a potential client, then you won’t. But if you are ready, oh baby here we go!
  • Show up on time, participate fully, and be coachable.
  • Come prepared to learn, make mistakes, and get better.
  • Agree to support each other and be a team player.
  • Focus on progress, not perfection. You need to be great, not perfect. We play a hard game, but it’s only to make it feel easier when you’re paid to perform.
  • And please try to have some fun. At least a little bit.

PRE-SUMMIT ASSIGNMENTS

Rookie Consultants: Prepare your sales conversation and/or pitch to influence us as the "institutional buyer" to bring CE to campus. Use what you know from your experience with us, what you've learned from the website, and your own sales knowledge. This will be your baseline for the summit training.

Rookie Facilitators: Prepare to perform your favorite song or movie monologue. Bring any music or video necessary. This will form show us your on stage persona and prove integral in bringing your seminars to life. (And yes, other facilitators have done this.)

Enrolled Facilitators: Prepare your Top Ten Facilitating and/or Consulting Insights In Ten Minutes. Slides, music, and video are not necessary. You'll be teaching our new team members and you'll be completely judged in every way possible...and you'll love it.

Everyone: Complete your CE Profile to tell us almost everything about you. Click here to get started, and know that it will take at least 30 minutes to complete.

BOOK STUDY

For this upcoming summit, the team reading is The Alliance, by Reid Hoffman. Please read or listen to this book before the summit and be prepared to discuss your top insights and actions.

"The employer-employee relationship is broken, and managers face a seemingly impossible dilemma: the old model of guaranteed long-term employment no longer works in a business environment defined by continuous change, but neither does a system in which every employee acts like a free agent."

At CE, we have been co-creating a 21st century educational organization. You don't work for us; you work with us. This is an alliance.

We study one book for every concept, so if this is your first summit, there three books we'd recommend you read or listen to over the next six months. (We do have Pop Quiz Game Shows where the most coveted prize is the unicorn and rainbow with a pot of gold.)

TRAVEL

The Grand Eastonian Suites Hotel is host to The Summit and our pre-arranged lodging and is located at:

140 Northampton Street
Easton, PA 18042
610-258-635

If you're flying in...

Liberty International Airport (EWR, Newark, NJ): 60 minutes to Easton. You can use the Trans-Bridge Bus (Allentown Route) to get off at the Easton Bus Terminal at 35 South Third Street, just two blocks from the hotel. $46 roundtrip with ticket. Newark is usually the most time and cost-effective option, but you need to get your ticket in advance to save yourself $20.

Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE, Allentown, PA): 15 minutes to Easton. Here's shuttle/taxi information from ABE Airport. Uber is also available for about $40-$50.

Do not fly into LaGuardia Airport or JFK. While it may be cheaper, it’s an additional 40 minutes away and two teammates have already tried and their logistics were hell. Trust us.

LODGING

We have already reserved and paid for your room. We have shared suites with separate bedrooms...and we own the second floor. Woohoo!

MEALS

We will have a continental breakfast and full catered lunch available for each day of training. Food and drink will be provided by Green Harvest Food Emporium, located within the same building.

Breakfast includes apple juice, orange juice, or coffee; assorted pastries and baked goods; bagels with cream cheese and/or butter. Green Harvest is also open and has your standard breakfast options (and the owner, Doreen, is very good and reasonably priced).

Please edit the Summit Lunch Orders doc by October 27th.

You are responsible for dinners and any meals or snacks outside of breakfast, lunch, and the Tuesday team dinner. New Member Orientation on Monday starts at 2pm, after lunch on your own.

You are welcome to bring or purchase whatever you'd like. Bonus points if you're sharing. Super bonus points if you share exclusively with Joe.

MAIN ROOM

Gold Room, lobby level of the Eastonian.

We will have 24/7 access to the room.

WiFi is available (and slow as snails, but it works).

FEES

As stated in The Code, “We get paid for results, not time. You don’t pay us to learn and we don’t pay you to work.” All fees are related to the expense of the summit. There is no tuition.

We have taken advantage of our nonprofit status and negotiated rates as low as possible to keep costs down for our team. Before negotiations, initial costs added up to $1,016 per facilitator, and that’s ridiculous. That doesn't count the "free" training.

Your total fee is $500 (unless rewarded otherwise) + travel, ground transportation, and dinners. Here’s what’s included:

  • Seminar room rental and materials
  • Shared lodging for four nights (Mon-Thu)
  • Continental breakfast and lunch for four days (Tue-Fri)
  • Refreshments for four days (Tue-Fri)
  • New CE apparel
  • Business cards

The fee may be paid with a credit card or by check. Credit card information may be called in to Bethany at 978-390-7030 (note: we do not retain credit card information), or emailed to Bethany@Collegiate-Empowerment.org. Checks should be made out to:

Collegiate Empowerment
400 Northampton Street
Suite 402
Easton, PA 18042

$250 is due on November 30th. This fee increases $50 to $300 within the week before the summit. The remaining $250 is due within 60 days by February 11th, or from a seminar check, whichever is sooner.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Your personal laptop and projector dongle (not necessary for rookies)
  • Wireless mouse presenter (AKA clicker, also not necessary for rookies)
